Notable foxing and tanning to endpapers and page edges. Pages are rough cut. Mild wear and tear to spine, cover edges and corners. Notable tanning, scuffing, staining and soiling all over covers.

A small almost plain private bookplate inside cover "F.G.Blockley Xmas 1912", minor offsetting to endpapers otherwise a near fine copy of a 120 year old book. All about the love of them too!

With Friend and Book first appeared on its own in 1889; the second part, though paginated separately, was not issued independently. On Lewis Morris, George Meredith, Poe, the seventeenth century Rosicrucian Thomas Vaughan, the rationalist grammarian James Harris, Philip Sidney, George Herbert and others, mostly in the form of dialogues supposed to have taken place in Rees' home city of Salisbury.
