Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First Edition / First Printing, stated First Edition with original $5.95 dust jacket. Interesting Cold War-era Taiwan provenance: rear flyleaf retains bookseller label of the 'Sino-American Dress Book Center,' 27 Chung-Ching Rd., Taichung, Taiwan, reflecting mid-century U.S.-Taiwan cultural and English-language book trade networks during the Vietnam War era. A major Cold War espionage novel by Leon Uris, Topaz fictionalizes the geopolitical tensions surrounding the Cuban Missile Crisis through an international network of spies, diplomats, defectors, and intelligence operatives. The novel moves across Washington, Paris, Havana, and Moscow in classic Uris fashion - fast-paced, heavily researched, and politically charged. The book later served as the basis for Alfred Hitchcock's 1969 film adaptation. This copy retains its original typographic dust jacket and includes notable provenance elements: an Ex Libris ownership stamp on the front flyleaf and a surviving bookseller label from the 'Sino-American Dress Book Center,' 27 Chung-Ching Rd., Taichung, Taiwan, China, affixed to the rear flyleaf, reflecting interesting mid-century international circulation during the Cold War era. Book condition: Good overall. Binding is firm with clean pale green cloth and bright spine stamping; mild rubbing and soft bumping at extremities. Front free endpaper is lacking, but remaining text block is complete and sound. Interior shows light age toning and offsetting with no writing observed beyond the noted Ex Libris ownership stamp and Taiwan provenance label. Dust jacket condition: Fair only. Jacket exhibits heavy edgewear, creasing, rubbing, toning, large tears and losses at upper rear panel and spine ends, plus old tape reinforcement visible on the interior upper front jacket area. Jacket remains presentable. Leon Uris (1924-2003) was one of the twentieth century's best-selling historical novelists, known for combining sweeping political subjects with accessible narrative storytelling. His works - including Battle Cry, Exodus, Mila 18, and QB VII - helped popularize large-scale historical fiction centered on war, nationalism, espionage, and modern geopolitical conflict. Jacket design by Leonard Leone (illustrator).…

Includes Part 1, Prelude; Part 2, Struggle; Part 3, Survival; and The Third Temple, by Leon Uris. Captions and acknowledgments for photographs appear on page 143. Also includes map, and a 64-Page Portfolio of Photographs of the Israel-Arab war in 1967. William Stevenson was a British-born Canadian author and journalist. His 1976 book "A Man Called Intrepid" was about William Stephenson (no relation) and was a bestseller. It was made into a 1979 mini-series starring David Niven and Stevenson followed it up with a 1983 book titled "Intrepid's Last Case." Stevenson set a record with another 1976 book, "90 Minutes at Entebbe." The book was about Operation Entebbe, an operation where Israeli commandos secretly landed at night at Entebbe Airport in Uganda and succeeded in rescuing the passengers of an airliner hijacked by Palestinian militants, while incurring very few casualties. The remarkable record in that pre-internet age is that Stevenson's "instant book" was written, edited, printed and available for sale within weeks of the event it described. Stevenson pioneered this approach in his rapid documentation of the 1967 Six-Day War, titled Strike Zion. Here is the story of Israel's Six Day. It includes the human side as well as smashing military scene. Israel's lightning mobilization, strategy against overwhelming odds, air warfare, the largest tank battle in history, the fighting women of Israel, the military genius of Moshe Dayan.…
