Small quarto 11x9 inches, publisher's printed boards attractively rebacked in a harmonious red morocco leather binding. Title, 87 pp and illustrated with 16 coloured maps and plans. The Wardington copy with the venerable nobleman's white bookplate on the back pastedown.

5 x 3 1/4 inches, very handsomely leather bound in full period light calf gilt with a red leather lettering label. All edges gilt. Half title, title, vi, 286 pages. Text in Latin. A very pretty copy of this important Roman playwright.

Condition minor rubbing to the binding, internally good. John Louis Jennings was the editor of the New York Times from 1870-1876.

Folio, bound in recent marbled boards. Pages 1-3 of description of the plates and 12 engraved plates- the section complete. Small blob to the outer margin of the first few plates not affecting the image- see photos.

Octavo 8 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches- handsomely leather bound in half morocco gilt over buckram boards by Hatchards, boards a little faded but a solid attractive binding. Illustrated with a portrait of the author. (x), 92 pages. Violet Nicolson (18651904) otherwise known as Adela Florence Nicolson (nee Cory)), was an English poet who wrote under the pseudonym Laurence Hope, however she became known as Violet Nicolson. In the early 1900s, she became a best-selling author. She tragically committed suicide aged 39.

Small octavo 7 x 4 1/2 inches, original publishers printed boards, backstrip worn with loss. 54 pages - text illustrated with music and other illustrations - WITH 12 FINE HAND COLOURED PLATES of the trades of Paris. Plates clean but text rather spotted. Old stationers ticket on the endpaper and an inscription dated 1853. Scarce- only 2 copies listed on COPAC and no information about the publication is listed online.

Fine oval engraved mezzotint of GALEN paper size 9 x 6 1/2 inches engraved by Baldrey after Mola - 'From an Original Picture in the possession of Mr Flynn, Symonds Inn'. Trimmed to the plate mark, mounted on an album sheet. No date circa 1790 on laid paper. Small closed tear to the top right. A scarce mezzotint- Galen of Pergamon, was a Greek physician, surgeon and philosopher in the Roman Empire. Considered to be one of the most accomplished of all medical researchers of antiquity, Galen influenced the development of various scientific disciplines, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and neurology, as well as philosophy and logic.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No date, full contemporary calf, slightly worn but still handsome. Woodcut frontispiece, title, epitaph to Honest Joe Miller and 243 pages. Ownership inscription to base of the title page and one contemporary annotation- otherwise a good copy. Difficult to date without a bibliography but late 18 century or early nineteenth. Only one copy of this edition listed on COPAC.

Small octavo 6 1/4 x 4 1/2 inches. Half title, (iv), 111 pages. Complete. Handsomely leather bound in full red calf by Riviere with two gilt flowers on leaf stems in gilt on the spine. The Golden Treasury Series.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Octavo 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches. BOUND IN FULL VELLUM BY WHITE OF PALL MALL, spine decorated with gilt half circles of dots, simple gilt fillets to the boards. Binder's stamp to the endpaper. Tiny crack to one upper corner. Engraved frontispiece and one engraved plan, lxiv, 690 pages. An unusual vellum binding on this copy of Sallust (circa BC 86) - a Roman historian, politician, and novus homo from an Italian plebeian family.

Duodecimo 5x3 inches. Title on spine reads THEATRE CHOISI DE VOLTAIRE and title page OEUVRES DE VOLTAIRE. Very handsomely leather bound in a full near period morocco with simple boards and with an elaborately gilt tooled spine. Title, 823, (1) pages- internally with some spotting. Binding in fine condition. A selection of Voltaire's plays in French. Bookplate of the Halton Library.

A scarce engraving of Rabbi Solomon Hirschell (1762- 1842) who was the Chief Rabbi of Great Britain, 180242. His name can also be spelt Hirschel and Herschell.

As the title describes an analysis of most of the important dates in the year. A lovely bound copy.

Hand coloured aquatint print - trimmed to the margin- cut from a scrapbook with other prints around the margin and on the verso. MISS WHITES BIRTHDAY PARTY -from Tregears Black jokes. Early nineteenth century English racism.

Large stipple engraving on laid paper 17 x 22 1/2 inches, closed tear to the top. Artist Bunbury, engraver Dickinson. Nine people sit in a semicircle around a man seated in the front (he is seen from behind). A black servant or slave holds a tray containing teacups. A French servant on the left hands round slices of bread. Apparently a humorous contrast between elevated discussion of cultural matters and the unattractiveness of most of the people attending. On the right, two younger people pay no attention to the discussion: a young woman fiddles with her fan, and a young man engages with the young woman Titled Conversazione (BM 6141, cat no.21) Bunbury pokes fun at a countrified version of the assemblies held in town by Mrs Montagu (Queen of the Blues) and other prominent literary hostesses.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Folio 19x13 inches, publishers portfolio with original ties. Limited to 500 copies this being number 374. Hand coloured title and 10 hand coloured plates. Some minor wear to the portfolio but internally very clean and fresh.

School presentation on the blank endpaper. A very pretty copy. Newbolt is perhaps best remembered for his poem Vitaï Lampada "Play up! play up! and play the game!".
