Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book charts the development of infrastructure in modern England from the 15th to the 19th century. Mapping out the shortcomings and successes at every stage, the author presents a comprehensive history of the English road system, including the evolution of river navigations and the birth of canals and railways. Alongside the technical challenges, the author explores the economic, social, and political factors that shaped and were shaped by transportation. The book concludes that England's rise to industrial dominance was predicated on the development of efficient means of moving people and goods.
