Bookplate of Henry Fell Pease, signature of Walter Fell Pease, Brinkbarn, 1897. Sadleir 1723 & Wolff 4768 for the first edition, 1896. This '1897' edition (with same collation as the first edition) has a cancel title and an edition note to verso of title indicating 'Third Impression January 1897. Taken over by John Murray January 1917'. A collection of 'Character Notes' the majority first published in the Cornhill 1893-95. 'A minority only are from the pen of H.S. Merriman.'.
