First edition. Colonel Young was appointed by Sir Charles Napier in 1843 to administer law in Scinde (modern-day Sindh in Pakistan) after his controversial seizure of the province in 1843. This volume transcribes much of their correspondence, reflecting "the long, hot, dusty, hard-working tours about the Sind dispensing English justice. At times full of detail and at other times scrappy" (Riddick). Riddick, Glimpses of India, 187. Octavo. Portrait frontispiece from a lithograph and 3 plates, with tissue guards, hand-coloured folding map. Original black cloth boards, spine lettered in gilt, dark blue endpapers, edges untrimmed. Binding sunned, spine ends and extremities worn, boards a little scuffed, front inner hinge cracked but holding, contents clean: a very good copy.
