Boards rubbed and marked with light losses to all edges and spine ends. Lightly foxed throughout with the inner hinge splitting. Various pencil doodles over endpapers and throughout publisher's catalogue. Contemporary ownership inscription to FFEP. Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895), British anthropologist, biologist, and advocate of Charles Darwin. Elected as a Royal Fellow at the age of just 25, Huxley went on to be an exceptionally influential educator, being elected to the London School Board in 1870, and pursuing adult education programmes nationwide. He is also credited with coining the term 'agnostic', which he was, though supported the reading of the Bible in schools in order to impart social morals to pupils. Size: 8vo.
