A la vérité, les ouvrages sur les pigeons sont remplis d'érudition et parlent de toutes choses, excepté des caractères ge'ne'rauoe des types purs, et c'est précisément ce que l'éleveur demande qu'on lui fasse connaitre. A plaisir, les auteurs qui ont écrit jus qu'ici sur les pigeons, ont toujours évité, dans leurs analyses des caractères propres de ces oiseaux, les petits détails en ap parence sans importance et sans lesquels, cependant, il est impossible d'étudier les races. En effet, dans le pigeon comme dans tous les animaux, ce sont les détails qui constituent, dans la majorité des cas, les caractères les plus saillants du type pur et qui concourent à la formation d'un seul tout, ou d'un idéal, irréprochable dans son ensemble comme dans ses divisions.
