The man of business, moreover, requires a competent knowledge of the laws of his own country, as well as of those of other states to which he may occasionally be obliged to con form. It must be gratefully acknowledged that much assistance has been rendered to him in this regard by the valuable works which have been published upon the law of insurance. But, it will be admitted, on the other hand, that it is not always possible to those who are accus tomed to consider those subjects principally in a legal point of view, to adapt their endeavours to the immediate wants of the man of business; and I hope that what I have endeavoured to do in this respect will not be found superfluous.
