Giving due credit, I have not hesitated to use some descriptions of Mr. Lewis, Mr. Newhall and Mr. Tracy.
It is quite likely that if I could have made the whole work a mosaic from the writings of such eminent authorities it would have been more satisfactory. The ground to he traveled, however, was largely untrodden, so that my pen had to do some pioneer scribbling.
