When, about eighteen months ago, the author brought be fore the medical public, in a Work on Diseases of the Air Passages, the subject of the treatment of disease of the larynx and trachea, in the adult, by means of the direct application of therapeutical agents to the lining membrane of those cavities, the proposition was received with dis trust by a large proportion of the profession; whilst another part publicly and peremptorily declared that it is practically impossible to convey medicinal agents, in the manner proposed, below the epiglottis.
