Paperback. Condition: Very Good. 1st Trade Edition; 1st Printing. Graphs; This is a bound volume of material prepared by the John A. Blume Engineering with up-to-date information regarding design and analysis of engineering Nuclear Reactors in Earthquake prone regions. This is an oversized paperback - perfectbound with heavy cardstock covers and paper tape. The book is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book is in generally clean, bright condition. The spine of the book cover has lengthy tearing to both the top and bottom ends and some beginning toning to the edges of the cardstock covers. The text pages are clean and bright. This copy was part of the Ebasco Services Inc. Library. While technically an Ex-library copy, there are no library markings except for the received stamp dated January 26, 1972 on the title page. Ebasco Services Inc. Was a subsidiary of General Electric (Ebasco stood for the Electric Bond Share Company) which supplied Nuclear Power Plant Engineering consulting for a number of years. The company was sold to Raytheon in 1993. "The present book discusses state-of-the-Art techniques and procedures, many of which are currently used by groups designing nucler power plant facilities. The text and figures were carefully proofed, and hopefully all errors removed. The procedures discussed herein are based on the extensive experience acquired by John A. Blume & Associates, Engineers in design and analysis of structures of all types - both in the United States and abroad - for resistance to earthquake-induced forces." (from Wikipedia).

Paperback. Condition: New. Written by two nationally recognized experts, this book provides a comprehensive review of the legal and clinical aspects of the death penalty as it relates to intellectual disability. First, the facts: people with intellectual disability may falsely confess to a crime because they want to please the authorities, and they are often less able than others to work with lawyers to prepare a defense. In addition, because of the stigma attached to intellectual disability, affected individuals often become adept at hiding it, even from their attorney, not understanding the condition's importance to the outcome of their case.Having explained such harsh realities and presented a comprehensive review of what intellectual disability is, the book focuses on the 2002 U.S. Supreme Court Atkins v. Virginia decision granting a death penalty exemption to individuals with intellectual disability. It outlines best practice regarding the determination of intellectual disability and discusses qualifications needed for experts in such cases. Related issues such as common misconceptions regarding people with intellectual disability, race, socioeconomic status, and the status of foreign nationals as it relates to the death penalty and intellectual disability are discussed as well. A must-have resource for prosecutors, defense lawyers, and clinicians providing expert testimony in death penalty cases, this book will also prove absorbing reading for anyone concerned about this troubling issue.
