Hardcover. Condition: Good. 8vo.184 pp. Contemporary worn calf [joints weak] [Abel Burja (30 August 1752 - 16 February 1816) a Prussian Protestant pastor. Inventor of a pasilalia and an optical telegraph, he was also one of the creators of the metronome (1790) and the binary code. "Regent of the second class" and "master of mathematics" at the French college in Berlin, he obtained in 1777 the position of "governor" of the children of a Russian family and set out to fetch the two eldest sons of the family. On his return to Berlin, he published the account of his trip, which contained one of the first ethnographic descriptions of Estonians in French. Good Copy.
