Photographie in München. - Erste zwei Seiten des Vorwortes eselsohrig, sonst ein sehr gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Aus dem Vorwort: Dem Wunsche des Herausgebers, einen Beitrag über dünne Schichten für die Optik zu liefern, welcher Gerätebauern und Optikkonstrukteuren einen tieferen Einblick in die Wirkungsweise und die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten dünner Schichten gewähren soll, bin ich deshalb nur mit Zögern nachgekommen, weil es bereits einige ausgezeichnete Bücher gibt, welche das Thema dünne Schichten behandeln. Es erschien mir als wenig sinnvoll, diesen Werken eine ähnlich geartete Abhandlung hinzuzufügen, zumal der Herausgeber eine kurze, allgemeinverständliche Darstellung gewünscht hatte. In der Beschränkung auf die Erläuterung der Bedeutung und die zweckmäßige Anwendung dünner Schichten in der praktischen Optik, die Diskussion der Vor- und Nachteile der Verwendung unterschiedlicher Schichtanordnungen sowie die Mitteilung vieler Erfahrungen bei der Serienfertigung dünner Schichten für die Optik hoffe ich, die Form der Darstellung gefunden zu haben, welche die vorhandene Fachliteratur zu ergänzen, aber nicht zu ersetzen vermag. Es erwies sich als zweckmäßig, dem Hauptteil über die Bedeutung und Anwendung dünner Schichten eine geschlossene theoretische Abhandlung voranzustellen, welche in strenger, phänomenologischer Betrachtungsweise, aufbauend auf den bekannten Fresnelschen Formeln, die optische Wirkung dünner Schichten erläutert. Die Verwendung komplexer Zahlen ließ sich dabei leider nicht vermeiden. Im Interesse einer systematischen und mathematisch möglichst einfachen Darstellung wurde auf elegante Ableitungen und die Erörterung vieler interessanter Einzelprobleme bewußt verzichtet. Zahlreiche Rechenbeispiele und anschauliche Darstellungen sollen dem Leser das Eindringen in diese vielleicht etwas ungewohnte Materie erleichtern und auch demjenigen noch einen Einblick ermöglichen, der die Mathematik geflissentlich überlesen möchte. Im zweiten Teil werden Meßergebnisse mitgeteilt, die Bedeutung der Schichten bzw. Schichtsysteme für die technische Optik besprochen, ihre zweckmäßige Anwendung an praktischen Beispielen diskutiert und die materialbedingten Grenzen der Realisierbarkeit theoretisch möglicher Lösungen aufgezeigt. Wer sich nur für die Ergebnisse interessiert, wird sich dort in einfacher Weise einen Überblick verschaffen können. Schließlich wird im dritten Teil ein Blick auf Verfahren und Methoden zur Herstellung dünner Schichten geworfen. Neben einer kurzen Beschreibung der geschichtlichen Entwicklung der einzelnen Verfahren sollen in diesem Teil vor allem die Möglichkeiten erörtert werden, welche durch die unterschiedlichen Methoden gegeben sind. Daß dabei das Aufdampfen im Hochvakuum den breitesten Raum einnimmt, ist auf die überragende Bedeutung zurückzuführen, welche dieses Verfahren zur Fabrikation dünner Schichten erlangt hat. - Hugo Anders war zu der Zeit Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter der Firma Carl Zeiss, Oberkochen.
