First Edition
Marbled boards. Condition: Very Good +. First Edition. A showcase really for the great French illustrator and painter Joseph Apoux (1846-1910), 27 of whose magnificent erotic etchings and drypoints are featured in this scarce collection of 4 late 19th century bound portfolios, each published by Rene Pincebourde of Paris, each circa 1891. Other leading French illustrators contributed to these magazines as well, such as T.H. Hizier and Gaston Neury, but it's Apoux whose sensual --and even sadomasochistic-- work shines brightest. Folio, bound in contemporay-to-the-period leather-backed marbled boards, with minor scuffing to the panels. Fascinating occult-suffused bookplate at the front pastedown, the illustrations along each recto, each facing verso blank. Wonderful, very artistic display of late 19th century French erotica.
