Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 717 pages. Possible first edition. Elzevier produced two editions in 1637: in this copy, pages 207 and 209 are erroneously numbered 107 and 109, which Willems (no. 452) believed marks the first edition; though it should also be noted that Rahir (no. 445) believed this to be the second. Leather with gilt borders to all panels, scored gilt decorations to all edges, and ornate gilt borders at the inside covers, to the leather outside the paste-downs; and five raised bands with gilt decoration and gilt titling to the spine. Leather lightly scratched and age-soiled, showing moderate edge-wear, with chipping and loss to spine ends (more at the spine foot). Headband at spine foot loose, though still attached. Split hinges, with covers still attached to textblock by strong thread binding. The binding itself is secure and firm. Marbled textblock edges, and marbled endpapers. Some discoloration just to edges of endpapers. Interior lightly age-toned, but clean and unmarked. Engraved title page. 3in x 5in. (BP-039).
