Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. A beautiful example of 'The Artists of the Rocks" by Walter Battiss. This is #413 of the Limited Edition of 500 such books. It is signed by Battiss and also contains a hand-written inscription from Battiss to "John" along with an original vignette drawing by Battiss depicting a camping expedition and fireside memory in the South African veld. Overall the condition of the book is excellent. All pages are crisp and clear, the binding remains firm, color plates are brilliant, Illustrations are sharp and very well defined, orange cloth dust cover is intact with some repairs on the reverse side and partially protected with transparent plastic outer cover (added at some point). The book is being sold with 2 rubbings of rock engravings - evidently of a rhebuck and also a rhino - which have been loosely kept in the book for well over 60 years - believed to have been made during one of the expeditions to rock art sites by one of Battiss's companions - perhaps the "John" mentioned in the inscription, alternatively and quite possibly by artist Alexander Podlashuc or historian Colin de Berri Webb who were once students of Battiss at Pretoria Boys High and accompanied him on several excursions into the South African veld (this copy came to be owned by Professor Colin de Berri Webb and formed part of his private collection for many decades). Walter Battiss (illustrator). Inscribed by Author(s).…
