Texts of this kind were designed both to instruct their readers or audience in doctrine, wisdom, morality, and Christian truth, and at the same time to entertain them through witty verbal exchanges, enigmas, and riddles. The texts that have been assembled here grew out of a common source that originated in Latin writing. However, no Latin text that can be identified as a witness to the source has survived, and to help compensate for this missing part of the textual tradition, the editors have reconstructed a Latin version using clues provided by the vernacular texts. Those edited here are: the Old English Prose 'Solomon and Saturn', the Middle English 'Master of Oxford's Catechism', the Old English 'Adrian and Ritheus', and the Old Icelandic 'Dialogue between a Pupil and his Master'. Nous avons d'abord questionné la médiation du voyage selon deux paradigmes, celui des « transferts culturels », concept dynamique théorisé par Michel Espagne et Michael Werner en ????, et celui des « images mentales » - stéréotypes ou topoï -, concept statique dont l'appareil critique remonte à l'Antiquité. Les deux journées d'études que l'équipe HISTARA (EA ????) de l'École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE-PSL) a consacrées à ces thématiques ont révélé un fort intérêt pour ces sujets de la part de disciplines aussi variées que l'histoire, l'histoire des arts, l'anthropologie ou la linguistique, ainsi qu'en témoigne la richesse des contributions de ce volume. Néanmoins, la notion de « rayonnement culturel » d'une zone géographique sur une autre, encore appelée « influence », notion liée au recouvrement synchronique ou diachronique, perdure encore aujourd'hui, tant elle a marqué les esprits : elle s'est donc imposée à nous comme troisième paradigme d'analyse. Si les articles ici réunis montrent combien les relations interculturelles ont été dépendantes de la vision statique et dominante de zones culturelles sur d'autres, ils révèlent aussi qu'il est essentiel de puiser dans l'appareil critique des transferts culturels pour révéler le dynamisme des échanges sous-jacents entre de multiples zones d'influence.
