Céline übte trotz der erheblichen Übersetzungsprobleme seines oft kaum strukturierten Gedankenflusses auf viele Schriftsteller eine Wirkung aus, so auf Henry Miller, Jean-Paul Sartre, Philip Roth und Helmut Krausser. Heute ist Céline als einer der bedeutendsten Sprachneuerer des 20. Jahrhunderts anerkannt. Fritz J. Raddatz kennzeichnet den rohen und assoziativen Stil von Mort à crèdit, das mit seiner moralfreien Schilderung des Elends seiner verarmten Patienten vielfach als bestes Werk Célines gilt, als einen "zu extremen Wortkaskaden aufgestachelten Bosheitsnaturalismus".
