Juli 1961 in Meudon) war ein französischer Schriftsteller und promovierter Arzt. Bekannt wurde er 1932 durch den Roman Reise ans Ende der Nacht. Politisch belastet ist er durch seinen Antisemitismus und seine Kollaboration. Céline übte trotz der erheblichen Übersetzungsprobleme seines oft kaum strukturierten Gedankenflusses auf viele Schriftsteller eine Wirkung aus, so auf Henry Miller, Jean-Paul Sartre, Philip Roth und Helmut Krausser. Heute ist Céline als einer der bedeutendsten Sprachneuerer des 20. Jahrhunderts anerkannt. Fritz J. Raddatz kennzeichnet den rohen und assoziativen Stil von Mort à crèdit, das mit seiner moralfreien Schilderung des Elends seiner verarmten Patienten vielfach als bestes Werk Célines gilt, als einen "zu extremen Wortkaskaden aufgestachelten Bosheitsnaturalismus".
