Condition: Fair. Unstated edition. [12]p + text on both inside covers. Printed in brown. No title page or jacket, as issued. It looks, unfortunately, as though a center spread has been removed. Handling stains, but the 4 half-page chromolithographs are very good and brighter than they look in the photos. Front cover is chipped and torn, as shown. Back cover is rubbed and stained along the sides. Ca. 9 x 16 inches at its widest. The pony's head moves up and down (ears chipped off). "Designed & Printed by Koerner & Hayes, Buffalo, N.Y." Collection of stories and verse about animals and nature by M.A. Hoyer, E. Nesbit, Clifton Bingham, Emily Bennett, G.R. Glasgow, and Miss Fenwick. Some pieces are uncredited. The titles are "Ungrateful Mike," "The Nodding Mandarin," "The Train" (Nesbit poem), "Sindbad," "Buttercups and Daisies," "Little Simplicity," "The Snowman," "Not Envious," "The Foreigner," and "The Witches' Meeting." The illustrator(s) is not named. Despite its defects, very scarce: not in WorldCat. Koerner & Hayes were well-known chromolithographers, and WorldCat locates a few other titles by the Koerner & Hayes / W.B. Perkins combination but not copies of this one. Shipping/handling will be extra; please keep this in mind when ordering. Sold as is. Hardcover (sewn chromolithographed boards, cloth spine).

Seller: Thomas J. Joyce And Company, Chicago, IL, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Quarto, [28] pages, quarter red cloth, chromolithographed cover, presentation inscription to Tommy from Aunt Mary at Christmas [18]96; full-page inscription on the front pastedown in 1932, which explains its provenance; amateurishly resewn through the spine, with threads visible This was issued as Nister's book 636, A Novel Panorama Picture Book. As such it as 4 double-page chromolithographed pop-ups (which appear to be quite intact! ). The third pop-up is unatributed, but it appears likely that it was done by Louis Wain, who did other works for Nister: it shows dogs and cats frolicking at the seaside, with a monocled cat with top hat and cane - typical of Louis Wain. The introductory poem is by Fred. E. Weatherley. "The Good LIly" is by E. Nesbit. Mutiple contributions by Clifton Bingham, including this excerpt: "They were happy little children, / And they had a prett book, / And they dearly loved to read it, / And at every picture look; ." Another poem, signed only as "E.N." too is likely by E. Nesbit. It is "The Circus", a 6-verse poem. It inspired the final pop-up which shows two circus clowns serving wine and cheese to two elephants seated at tables. [ Opie Collection of Children's Literature, 039:241].
