Ihr Platz war beim sozialen Roman. So sah Kleinwächter in ihnen noch nichts anderes als spekulative Philosophie, die sich blutwenig um die Wirklichkeit gekümmert habe. Ast spricht Platon jegliche historische Grundlage ab. So konnte es denn nicht fehlen, daß die Darstellungen der griechischen Staatslehre fast durch-weg mit Aristoteles begannen. Aber eine genauere Untersuchung gerade der Gesetze hätte zeigen müssen, daß Aristoteles auch auf diesem Gebiete in Platon einen Vorgänger hatte, von dem er in weit höherem Maße beeinflußt war, als die übliche Darstellungsweise erkennen läßt. Selbst in der historischen, vergleichenden Staatslehre muß Platon mindestens neben Aristoteles genannt werden, hat er doch für sein letztes Werk nómi und politie gesammelt und benutzt und überdies den Versuch einer historischen Darstellung von den Verfassungen der Dorier, Perser und.
