Alfons V. von Aragon (zugleich: Alfons IV. von Barcelona, Alfons III. von Valencia und Alfons II. von Mallorca und Sardinien), genannt el Magnànim (der Großmütige) (* 1396 in Medina del Campo; gestorben 27. Juni 1458 in Neapel) war der älteste Sohn König Ferdinands des Gerechten und seiner Ehefrau Eleonore Urraca von Kastilien. Mit 20 Jahren bestieg er als Nachfolger seines Vaters den Thron des Königreichs Aragonien. Als Alfons I. war er auch König von Neapel und Sizilien. Er galt als kluger und milder Herrscher, wenn auch zu Prachtliebe und Wollust geneigt. Den Wissenschaften zugewandt, gründete er 1434 die Universität von Catania in Sizilien. Nach dem Fall von Konstantinopel 1453 nahm er die aus der Stadt geflüchteten Gelehrten auf. Er starb am 27. Juni 1458. In seinen Erbstaaten folgte ihm sein Bruder Johann II., König von Navarra, in Neapel sein vom Papst legitimierter Sohn Ferdinand. Ferdinand I. bzw. Ferrante (* 2. Juni 1424 in Valencia; gestorben 25. Januar 1494 in Genua) war ab 1439 Generalleutnant, danach 1443 Herzog von Kalabrien und wurde im Jahr 1458 - im Alter von 34 Jahren - König von Neapel und hatte diese Herrschaft bis zu seinem Tod inne. Herman(n) Hefele (* 13. Oktober 1885 in Stuttgart; gestorben 30. März 1936 in Frauenburg, Ostpreußen) war ein deutscher Historiker und Literaturhistoriker. Hermann Hefele, Sohn von Emil von Hefele, Präsident des katholischen Oberkirchenrats in Stuttgart, studierte ab 1904 an der Universität Tübingen katholische Theologie, zunächst mit dem Ziel Priester zu werden, verließ aber 1908 das Priesterseminar und wurde 1909 zum Dr. phil. promoviert. Anschließend war er bis 1919 Mitarbeiter am Historischen Atlas von Bayern in München. 1919 wurde er Archivar am Hauptstaatsarchiv Stuttgart, 1929 Professor für Geschichte und neuere deutsche Literaturgeschichte an der Staatlichen Akademie in Braunsberg in Ostpreußen. 1935 wurde er emeritiert. Er übersetzte Francesco Petrarca, Augustinus, Gerolamo Cardano, Albert von Aachen, Stefano Infessura, Tristano Caracciolo, Antonio Beccadelli, Camillo Porzio und andere ins Deutsche. Marie Herzfeld (auch H. M. Lyhne und Marianne Niederweiden; * 20. März 1855 in Güns, Kaisertum Österreich; gestorben 22. September 1940 in Mining) war eine österreichische Schriftstellerin, Literaturkritikerin und Übersetzerin. Sie nahm aktiv am literarischen und künstlerischen Leben an der Wende des 20. Jahrhunderts teil und stand mit Kollegen wie Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, Karl Emil Franzos, Rainer Maria Rilke, Gustav Klimt und Hugo von Hofmannsthal in regem Austausch. Die Tochter eines jüdischen, 1886 katholisch getauften Arztes übersetzte zunächst skandinavische Literatur (Björnstjerne Björnson, Jonas Lie, Arne Garborg, Knut Hamsun und als erste die Gesamtausgabe von Jens Peter Jacobsen). Begleitend erschienen ihre kritischen literarischen Essays zu zeitgenössischen skandinavischen Autoren unter anderem in der Frankfurter Zeitung und der Wiener Literaturzeitung. Seit Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts konzentrierte sie sich auf die italienische Renaissance und besonders Leonardo da Vinci, zu dem sie u. a. eine Monographie veröffentlichte, die bis in die zweite Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts beachtet wurde. Fritz Helmuth Ehmcke (* 16. Oktober 1878 in Hohensalza; gestorben 3. Februar 1965 in Widdersberg) war ein deutscher Grafiker, Schriftentwerfer, Illustrator und Buchgestalter; vereinzelt wird er auch als "Architekt" einiger weniger ausgeführter Gebäude genannt. Die eng beschränkte Auswahl, die au…s den zahlreichen Quellenschriften getroffen werden mußte, ging dabei von dem Gedanken aus, nur Schriften von eigener literarischer Bedeutung zur Veröffentlichung zu bringen. . Die im Folgenden wiedergegebene Auswahl aus der neapolitanischen Literatur wird darum manches Wertvolle vermissen lassen; immerhin glaubt der Übersetzer mit den vier Schriften ein charakteristisches Material zur politischen und geistigen Geschichte Neapels zu geben. Die Wahl Beccadellis bedarf keiner Rechtfertigung. Sein liebenswürdiges Büchlein "Aus dem Leben des Königs Alfonso I." (De dictis et factis Alfonsi I libri quattuor) atmet wie kaum ein zweites Dokument seiner Zeit den Geist der höfischen und ritterlichen Renaissancekultur. Das Bild des großen Königs ist durch die viel gelesene und oft gedruckte Anekdotensammlung Beccadellis weit über die Grenzen des Königreichs Neapel hinausgetragen worden. Auch die beiden Schriften des Tristano Caracciolo werden nach den bewundernden Hinweisen Burckhardts und Gotheins auf diesen wenig gekannten Schriftsteller gerne Beachtung finden, um so mehr als aus ihnen eine Seite des geistigen Lebens dieser Zeit spricht, die man oft zu überhören geneigt ist, der düstere Ernst und der schwerblütige Pessimismus, ein Charakterzug, der der Kultur der Renaissance nicht weniger wesentlich angehört als die ungebrochene Heiterkeit Beccadellis. Einigen Widerspruch mag die Wahl von Camillo Porzios Geschichte der Baronenverschwörung finden. .
