Condition: sehr guter Zustand. Aquarell und Pinsel in Grau, über Bleistift, auf gelblichem Velin, rechts unten signiert C. Andreae". 13,4:10 cm. - Kleine Restaurierung in der linken unteren Ecke. Miniaturhaft ausgeführtes Aquarell, das vermutlich als Vorzeichnung für eine Illustration entstanden ist. Andreae war 1839-1844 Schüler der Düsseldorfer Akademie bei C.F. Sohn (1805-1867) und W. von Schadow (1788-1862). Im Mai 1845 reiste er nach Italien (Rom, Neapel, Sorrent), wo er mit den Nazarenern P. Cornelius, F. Overbeck und E. von Steinle verkehrte. Durch Steinle lernte er die Wachs-Tempera-Technik für monumentale Wandmalerei kennen. 1848 kehrte Andreae nach Deutschland zurück, folgte Cornelius nach Berlin, wo sich seine Hoffnung zerschlug, dessen Mitarbeiter zu werden. Er verbrachte die nächsten Jahre wieder in Italien, bevor er sich 1853 in Berlin und 1857-1881 in Dresden niederließ. 1881 übernahm er das elterliche Gut Helenaberg bei Sinzig. Andreaes Werke zeichnen sich durch großen Schönheitssinn aus. Leichtigkeit in der Komposition und schnelle Schaffenskraft ermöglichten ihm während seines langen Lebens außergewöhnlich zahlreiche Werke hervorzubringen.
