Wetenschappelijk onderzoek is sindsdien verder gevorderd ? vooral op epidemiologisch vlak ? waardoor sommige aandachtspunten bevestigd zijn, en nieuwe bijkomen (bv. niet?kanker effecten). Daarom is het boek waardevol als historisch referentiekader, maar het is aangevuld en deels bijgesteld door nieuwere inzichten.
