Manuscript / Paper Collectible
3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, lightly-aged, with light traces of grey paper mount on blank reverse of second leaf. He is 'far from wishing to deprive [Scott] of the fair remuneration which [his] Talents deserve', but he 'cannot comply with the exorbitant demaind [he has] made for a few drawings lent to Lady Verulam', who 'did not think she was to pay any thing' for them. He points out that 'other Artists who had instructed my Daughters' had made 'if any the most moderate demand'. He concludes by offering to 'refer the Case to any competent Person', but he does not think that 'any sense of Justice or Law would bear you out in such a Charge'.
