The act of dedicated life is in relation to life as examined, but also in relation to an unknown future. This is the tension in which life always maintains its balance. It requires reason to analyze the situation and faith to act in terms of the unknown future. But we are also coming to see that the analysis of the situation rests in its turn on the acceptance of an organized body of assumptions as trustworthy for purposes of such analytical thinking. The origin of these assumptions becomes an important question.
