La ricerca va inquadrata in quel vasto movimento che tende al graduale recupero del patrimonio edilizio urbano cosiddetto minore, é, in effetti, alla luce di un maturato senso della storia dell'architettura e del restauro che… lo studio cerca di tracciare un'ipotesi di valutazione storica del fenomeno dell'architettura teatrale in Romagna. Caratteristica della Romagna è una omogeneità strutturale, seppur stratificata nel tempo, che riguarda direttamente l'assestamento edilizio urbano sette-ottocentesco. I teatri in Romagna si strutturano sul territorio secondo un disegno che risponde a regole estremamente funzionali e strettamente legate all'impulso economico e all'incremento demografico delle città. La successione cronologica dei teatri, 1757 il Rossini di Lugo, 1857 il Comunale di Rimini racchiude un periodo storico fondamentale che vede operanti nel territorio delle Legazioni i maggiori architetti neoclassici. Elle s'ouvre sur une notice bio-bibbliographique sur Rétif de la Bretonne (IX-XLIII pp. du premier volume). Chaque volume se termine par d'intéressantes Notes explicatives. Bien qu'elle ne donne que des extraits de l'œuvre complète de Rétif de la Bretonne (les meilleurs morceaux selon Henri Bachelin), cette édition fortement incomplète donne malgré tout un ensemble de textes suffisamment représentatifs de son auteur. Elle est par ailleurs joliment illustré par les meilleurs artistes du début des années 1930. Fils de paysans de l'Yonne, devenu ouvrier typographe à Auxerre et Dijon, Nicolas Restif de La Bretonne s'installe à Paris en 1761 : c'est alors qu'il commence à écrire. Il a une vie personnelle compliquée et est sans doute indicateur de police. Polygraphe, il fait paraître de très nombreux ouvrages touchant à tous les genres, du roman érotique (L'Anti-Justine, ou les Délices de l'amour) au témoignage sur Paris et la Révolution (Les Nuits de Paris ou le Spectateur nocturne, 1788-1794, 8 volumes) en passant par la biographie avec La Vie de mon père (1779) où il brosse un tableau idyllique du monde paysan avant la Révolution avec la figure positive de son père. Il a également touché au théâtre sans grand succès. Très bon exemplaire du très rare tirage de tête à 25 exemplaires sur Annam. II with 90 signed colour drawings avec remarque by Carlo Farnetti to illustrate an unpublished edition of the work, 6 watercolours on thick paper signed by Dignimont, 27 drawings (mostly signed some hand-coloured) by the same, and over 100 proof sheets (in colour and black and white) after Dignimont also to illustrate a previously published edition of the work; both housed in modern maroon morocco boxes. One of 50 copies with an extra suite of plates and a copper plate. This copy also includes a collection of original drawings from two other artists Written by Jean Lorrain (born Paul Duval) and originally published in 1904, La Maison Philibert revolves around a Parisian brothel of the belle epoque. Although prostitution and debauchery was not an uncommon theme in fin de siecle literature, Lorrain had his own reputation for being particularly outrageous in both his writings and his real life escapades. The erotic novel is here illustrated with 30 etchings with a suite of additional four states by Courbouleix. The second volume contains a large collection of drawings to illustrate the same work by two other artists. Carlo Farnetti (1892-1961), Neapolitan by birth, moved to Paris where he illustrated works by Zola, Baudelaire and Poe. He was later comissioned by Javal & Bordeaux to illustrate Les Cent Nouvelles but his drawings for La Maison Philibert were never published - making this collection of original drawings accordingly rare. Andrà Dignimont, a 'figure notable de Montmatre' was celebrated for perfectly capturing feminine beauty. The present volume contains a vast amount of proofs and signed drawings by Dignimont to illustrate an edition of La Maison Philibert that was published in 1925 by Collection des Arts.
