Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book vividly recounts the experiences of the Green Howards, a Yorkshire regiment, during their deployment in the Second Boer War. The author, himself a member of the regiment, offers a firsthand account of their journey from England to the Cape, their involvement in the battles of Paardeberg and Driefontein, and their eventual march into Bloemfontein. Throughout this chronicle, the author captures the daily struggles of the soldiers, including the hardships of marching, the brutal realities of combat, and the challenges of navigating the harsh African landscape. The narrative transcends mere military history, delving into the personal experiences of the soldiers, their camaraderie, and their resilience in the face of adversity. The author paints a poignant picture of their anxieties, their triumphs, and their profound losses. He provides a unique perspective on the complexities of the conflict, highlighting the courage and sacrifice of those involved, as well as the inherent challenges of a protracted war in a foreign land. The book serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Second Boer War and its impact on the lives of ordinary soldiers who fought for their nation. It offers valuable insight into the human cost of war and the enduring spirit of those who served on the front lines. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
