Spanning the 15 years from 1884 to 1899, it delves into the transformation of surgery from a dangerous and often deadly practice to a more precise and successful one. The author traces the decline in mortality rates for major surgeries. The book highlights the work of leading surgeons, like Joseph Lister, who pioneered the use of antiseptics in surgery. Through meticulous research and compelling case studies, the book sheds light on the groundbreaking discoveries that have shaped modern surgical techniques and infection control protocols, significantly reducing the risk of complications and saving countless lives. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
