From the library of Prof. Dr. Wolfram Kleiss, long-time director of the Tehran branch of the German Archaeological Institute. - With dedication by the author. - A very good and clean copy. - From the text: German archaeologists have been working in Uruk in southern Mesopotamia since 1912. The as yet unexcavated mound Nufegi and two smaller grave mounds, called Frehat en-Nufegi, are situated several kilometers north of Uruk. The Frehat en-Nufegi graves were excavated in 1956 and 1958 by v. Müller, Peschken, Falkenstein and v. Haller. V. Haller dated the eastern mound to the first post-Christian century, whereas Falkenstein assumed an origin in Sasanian times for the western mound. Subsequently, Calmeyer dated both tumuli to the first century A.D. When the tumuli were excavated differences, but also several similarities came to light. Both cases concern a tumulus with a circular wall. In the centre of the mound a tomb chamber with corbelled vault is located, which contains a postament of baked bricks, on which the funeral remains were found. On the western mounds postament the remains of four adults were buried in four urns (fig. 1), while on the eastern mounds postament the skeleton of a single adult was laid to rest (fig. 2). Auf die Datierungsproblematik der Frehat en-Nufegi-Gräber stieß ich im Rahmen der Bearbeitung der Metallfunde aus Uruk. Nördlich des Stadtgebietes von Uruk liegen der bisher unausgegrabene Hügel Nufegi und zwei kleinere Grabtumuli, Frehat en-Nufegi genannt, die 1956 und 1958 von v. Müller, Peschken, Falkenstein und v. Haller ausgegraben wurden . Während der östliche Hügel von v. Haller dem ersten nachchristlichen Jahrhundert zugeordnet wurde, nahm Falkenstein für den westlichen Hügel eine Entstehung in sasanidischer Zeit an. Einband leicht berieben. - Die Noetlingsche Sammlung ist die älteste Sammlung von Periano Ghundai und Dabar Kot überhaupt. Ihr liegt natürlich keine systematische Untersuchung nach heutigem Maßstabe zugrunde; es handelt sich vielmehr um einen selektiven Survey, was zu jenem Zeitpunkt und bei der überwältigenden Fülle des dort befindlichen Materials - wovon ich mich 1986 in Dabar Kot überzeugen konnte kein Wunder ist. Der Wert der Sammlung ist insofern keineswegs zu unterschätzen, als daß die Erforschung dieser beiden Orte und ihres Umlandes bis heute in den Kinderschuhen steckt. Trotzdem bleibt eine Fülle von Fragen und Problemen offen, deren Lösungen zukünftigen Ausgrabungen vorbehalten bleiben. Die zweite Keramiksammlung verdanken wir Herrn Wolf Henckmann, Berlin, der als Bergingenieur viele Jahre in Pakistan weilte und im Auftrage der pakistanischen Regierung in führender Position die Kohlengruben in Belutschistan aufbaute.
