First edition. Octavo, pp., [viii], 305, [1]. Publisher's original pebble-grain crimson cloth, titled in gilt to spine and upper board. Library deaccession label to end. Soiling to cloth, spine cracked and sun-faded, top edge dusty. Light foxing to preliminaries, otherwise neat. A used but serviceable copy. A very rare account of the author's experience of the Great War between 1916-18. Gauld's unit, 'the Berwickshers' is most likely the 6th Service Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers. Gauld begins his account with the Battle of Somme, and goes on to describe his experience at Ypres and Arras. Gauld's account was later republished in 1930 as Scotland Yet!, which is similarly rare. Date from British Library. We locate five copies only in UK libraries: BL, Bodleian, Cambridge UL, NLS and NLW.
