Some instances of wear within text block, including instances of shakiness around middle. Pencil markings on first end page. Inscribed by Gide at top of half title. Limited edition of 300 copies, with individual copies not numbered. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. An extremely scarce inscribed piece. Noted by The New York Times as "France's greatest contemporary man of letters," Gide (1869-1951) was the author of over 50 works, with his pieces influenced by the symbolist movement and anti-imperialist sentiments. Gide received the Noble Prize for Literature in 1947. He, particularly in later life, was an open defender of pederasty and pedophile, with his journals documenting his abuse of underage boys. A rare limited edition copy with its original wrappers.
