Hooks was the long-time executive director of the NAACP, serving from 1978-1992 and was largely responsible to revitalizing the organization. He died in 2010. 9'' x 6''. Original black cloth lettered… in gilt. In original unclipped (no price) color pictorial dust jacket. 388 pages. Inscribed by author Hooks to front endpaper: "To / Denise Allen / Thanks / & / Peace / Benjamin Hooks." Jacket lightly rubbed. A couple of small corner bumps. Else clean and sound. Near fine in a near fine jacket. Signed.

Hooks was a lawyer, Baptist minister, civil rights leader and government official, who served terms as the commissioner of the FCC and executive director of the NAACP. A former professional football player, Kemp [1935-2009] was a long-serving member of U.S. House of Representatives and secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under President George H.W. Bush. He ran for president in 1988 and was Bob Dole's running mate in 1996.
