Hooks was a lawyer, Baptist minister, civil rights leader and government official, who served terms as the commissioner of the FCC and executive director of the NAACP. A former professional football player, Kemp [1935-2009] was a long-serving member of U.S. House of Representatives and secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under President George H.W. Bush. He ran for president in 1988 and was Bob Dole's running mate in 1996.
