Hardcover. Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. Account and period documentation of the 1743 mutiny of this famous Scottish regiment during the War of the Austrian Succession. Original red cloth with gilt titles. Heavily edgeworn, rubbed, and soiled with one-inch spot on spine. Hinges started, but binding firm. Front and rear endpapers absent. Moderate foxing to frontispiece, title page, and rear three pages of book. Large closed tears to pages 99 and 100 of introduction pages, and plate between pages 42 and 43 of text. Contents clean and largely very good with occasional light to moderate foxing.

MacWillkiam (1859-1936) was a Black Watch historian and published three works on the Black Watch, including this account of the origin and history of the tartan worn by the Black Watch. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the boards and bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with a name and date (1947) written on the front free endpaper. Loosely inserted at the start of the book are two typewritten copies of some correspondence that took place in the pages of The Scotsman in 1881 concerning the Clan Munro, and its connection with the Black Watch.
