Add to basketPaperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the events leading up to the mutiny of Lord Sempill's Highland Regiment in 1743, a pivotal moment in British history. The author meticulously examines the circumstances that prompted the raising of the regiment, initially composed of six independent companies, to maintain order and quell unrest in the Scottish Highlands. However, as the threat subsided, the regiment's role was redefined, causing discontent among its members who believed they had been deceived about their purpose. Through exploration of primary source documents, including letters, orders, and official reports, the book sheds light on the motivations of the soldiers and the government's handling of the situation. The author analyzes the interplay between promises made to the Highlanders and the shifting political landscape, ultimately highlighting the complexities and tensions that contributed to the mutiny. This book offers a valuable examination of a significant historical event, shedding new light on the experiences and perspectives of the Highlanders and providing insights into the military, social, and political dynamics of the time. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
