Add to basketFIRST EDITION, colour-printed frontispiece by H.K. Browne and a further colour-printed plate by J.D. Watson, both executed by Edmund Evans, numerous other illustrations throughout, a little spotting to prelims, a few leaves dust-darkened and the occasional faint spot, pp. 96, 8vo, original colour-printed tan wrappers with a vari…ant of frontispiece illustration, rubbed along joints with a little splitting at ends, a little creased and nicked with light soiling to rear panel, spotting to flyleaf, good. The selection includes a few pieces by W.S. Gilbert, in his pre-Sullivan days - the last of these, a cartoon entitled 'The History of a Gentleman who was Born at an Advanced Age', pre-figuring F. Scott Fitzgerald's 'Curious Case of Benjamin Button' and bringing into relief the under-explored influence of Gilbert's 'topsy-turvy' style on the jazz age author's short fiction. A scarce survival in the original wrappers.
