Johann Karl August Musäus (17351787) war ein deutscher Philologe, Schriftsteller und Literaturkritiker der Aufklärung, der vor allem als Märchensammler und als sowohl satirischer als auch volkstümlicher Erzähler bekannt wurde. Die vorliegenden Volksmärchen waren schon zu seinen Lebzeiten sehr erfolgreich und wurden über die Jahrzehnte immer wieder herausgegeben und auch übersetzt.
