Publisher's dark green decorative cloth, gilt embossed to front panel & spine, a.e.g., a little rubbed and edge-worn to the extremities, lacking the front endpaper, hinges are a little weak, a couple of bookplates to the front paste-down of Hugh Coleridge Kennard, and R. M. Gotch as well as a contemporary ink inscription above the preface, text is generally clean and the plates bright and all accounted for, a very respectable copy of this Victorian classic. xii, 308pp.

First edition; No. 611 of 1500 copies signed by John Nash. A few light scratches to the leather spine; contents fine. The slipcase is a bit tanned and worn at extremities.

Small 8vo. 16cm by 11cm. pp 192, [2] colour plates. Original publisher's blue cloth, lettered gilt at the spine with gilt emblem on the front board with all edges gilt. Neat gift inscription on front pastedown, "Edwin Walter Savage from his friend Lord Mulgrave." Slight rubbing at spine and corners (slight signs of repair) with slight wear at inner hinges, otherwise sound, near very good with clean text and plates.

Condition - Spine is frayed at ends and darkened. Front hinge is broken. Both boards have some stains with bumping and fraying at corners. Several internal pages are also stained in places and there are a number of pencil inscriptions. Binding has weakened in places but there are no loose pages.

Beveled edges. Illustrated title page and frontispiece. This memorial and commemorative publication was issued on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare. The publication serves as an illustrated biography of Shakespeare, including text derived from a multitude of sources, accompanied throughout with small as well as full page b/w steel plate engravings after showing various historical locations and figures related to Shakespeare's life. There are also reproductions of original signatures and historical documents throughout. A various points throughout the book there are a total of 4 chromo-lithographic plates (including the frontispiece) in hues of yellow and orange, red and brown, after original illustrations of scenes from the Bard's work, by John Gilbert (1817 - 1897), all mounted on heavy stock paper. Binding loose. Rubbing, bumping, sunning and chipping to the spine and the edges of the covers. Interior with frontispiece and title page detached but present.
