PLEASE NOTE: Pages 8,13,15-17 each have one sentence underlined in black pen. Page 15 has three sentences underlined. This copy is smyth sewn. Smyth sewing is a method of bookbinding where groups of folded pages (referred to as signatures) are stitched together using binder thread. Each folded signature is sewn together individually with multiple stitches and then joined with other signatures to create the complete book block. This is the traditional and best method of bookbinding.

Signed and inscribed by author to Hugh Bennett, in French language, on half title.Some page edges affected by damp as follows. Where pages have been separated, after being stuck together, damage has occurred to blank fore-edge margin in about first 30 pages and prelims. Page edges chipped with small tears, but no loss of text. Some cockeling to other pages and one plate (184) has large closed tear. Fascinating and useful text all accessable, but regard this as good reader only with badly torn wrapper. Signed by Author(s).
