Édition originale de la traduction française des Ricerche sulla scienza dei governi. Elle a été donnée en français par Charles Gilloton de Beaulieu à partir de l'ouvrage, composé en Italie en 1786 et publié pour la première fois à Lausanne quatre ans plus tard. Né à Milan, le comte Giuseppe Gorani (1740-1819), lié à Beccaria, adepte de la pensée physiocratique, participe à la société dite du Café qui diffuse les Lumières en Italie. Après avoir publié un Traité du Despotisme - éclairé - en 1770, il accueille favorablement la Révolution française, s'installe à Paris et obtient, avec l'appui de Bailly, le titre de citoyen français. Ses articles et pamphlets exaltés lui valent d'être banni des domaines des Habsbourg et notamment d'Italie. Il se retire à Genève où il termine sa vie. Dans le premier tome des Recherches, Gorani, en disciple de Beccaria, s'intéresse d'abord à la législation criminelle, notamment aux questions de la peine et des prisons. Il traite également de la famille, de l'éducation des filles, des m?urs - il se réfère favorablement au Pornographe de Restif -, des magistrats, de la liberté de penser et de publier ou des assemblées du peuple, etc. Dans le second tome, l'auteur étudie le domaine de l'économie politique : la population - il s'y montre opposé au célibat du clergé -, l'agriculture, les finances, l'impôt, les colonies, etc. Bel exemplaire très joliment relié. Fu poi in Spagna, Portogallo e infine Vienna, dove divenne funzionario di Maria Teresa, finché egli non espresse con troppa franchezza all'imperatrice la sua avversione nei confronti di Firmian e di Kaunitz. Dopo un breve viaggio in Inghilterra e in Francia, raggiunse Costantinopoli, dove cercò, forse su consiglio del Voltaire, di restaurare al trono i vecchi Commeni. Soggiornò di nuovo a Milano, quindi visitò il Regno di Napoli e Roma. Fu quindi in Svizzera e poi in Francia, dove dal 1790 fissò la propria residenza, divenendo cittadino francese e avvicinandosi ad alcuni intellettuali, tra cui Condorcet, Bailly, Barthélemy e Mirabeau. Di questi tracciò poi spregiudicati profili nei suoi Mémoires. Nel 1793 riparò di nuovo in Svizzera fuggendo il Terrore. In quell'anno ?.egli fece uscire a Parigi i Mémoires secrets, i quali gli suscitarono l'odio di alcuni sovrani, soprattutto di Maria Carolina di Napoli, che lo perseguitò. Fromm III,11357 - Gorani (1740-1819), französcher Soldat und Diplomat italienischer Abstammung, war ein glühender Republikaner und Anhänger der Französischen Revolution. Als Diplomat diente er Maria Theresia und stand in Verbindung zu Kant, Voltaire und Bonnet. Nach der Veröffentlichung einer Schrift gegen Despotismus wurde er Ende 1791 aufgrund revolutionärer Ideen zur Vertreibung aus den habsburgischen Herrschaftsorten verurteilt und wurde Bürger von Paris. 1793 veröffentlichte er diese geheimen Memoiren samt Kritik an Gerichten, Regierungen und Sitten der wichtigsten italienischen Staaten. - Band 1 different gebunden. Condition: Sehr gut. der italienische Adelige Gorani hatte mit den Briefen an die Souverains eine politische Streitschrift zu Gunsten der französischen Revolution verfaßt, die dann gegen seinen Willen m. nennung seines Namens veröffentlicht wurde und großes Aufsehen erregte. Im vorliegenden, anonym erschienenen, Band schreibt er 9 Briefe an die Franzosen, die seine inzwischen kritische Haltung zur politischen Entwicklung in Frankreich beleuchten. Pappband m. farbigem Rückenschild, gemusterter Schnitt, sehr gut erhalten ,innen kaum gebräunt - sehr selten angeboten.
