Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. An excellent copy. Dust jacket is fully intact. All pages clean, crisp and fresh. Publisher's note: "This remarkable book, written shortly after the Great War and first translated into English in the 1930s, describes the day-to-day life of a German fighter squadron in Flanders on the Western Front in 1918. The true identity of the author is unknown, and the work is thinly fictionalized (many scholars believe that Jagdstaffel 356 is really the story of Bavarian Staffel 35B), but the authenticity of the experiences themselves have never been in doubt. Flying Fokker DVII's agains British Sopwith's and American bombers, the German flyers described in this book face increasing odds against the Allied air fleets . It is clear throughout, however, that the individual duels in the sky hearken back to the chivalrous combats of old, as opposed to the mass destruction taking place in the trenches and shell-pocked fields."-- Jacket page ii.
