Vintage Albuminabzug.- Inventarnummer 45.- Wilhelm Hammerschmidt gehört zu den ersten Photographen überhaupt, die in Ägypten ein Studio betrieben haben. Sein Atelier wurde in den späten 1850er Jahren gegründet und bestand bis nach 1870. Im Jahr 1861 beteiligte er sich an einer Ausstellung der Société Française de Photographie und 1863 wir er in deren Mitgliedslisten verzeichnet. Großformatige Bilder aus Ägypten soll er 1862 auf der Weltausstellung in London gezeigt haben. Einige seiner Photographien sind in zwei Alben Monuments de 1'Egypte ancienne et moderne (um 1862) und Souvenirs d'Egypte` (1862) veröffentlicht worden.-# Vintage, albumen print, mounted on cardboard, signed by the photographer in the negative.- Born in Berlin (died 1869), Wilhelm Hammerschmidt was already a professional photographer when he settled in Cairo, Egypt, around 1860. There he established the Hammerschmidt shop, where he sold photographic materials.-.
