Die Studie stand vor der Herausforderung, dass kurz vor ihrem Beginn eine umfassende Reform des Bildungssystems in Kraft trat, die unter der damaligen zuständigen Ministerin Anna Zalewska ab September 2017 umgeSetzt wurde. Damit fiel das Projekt in eine Übergangsphase von bis heute andauernden Reformaktivitäten, die im Schuljahr 2020/2021 nur vorläufig als abgeschlossen betrachtet werden können. Diese Studie wurde mithin zu einem Zeitpunkt erstellt, in dem die Bildungsreform von 2017 bereits "wirkte", in ihren langfristigen Folgen aber noch nicht eindeutig zu beurteilen war. Andererseits ergab sich daraus aber auch eine interessante Forschungssituation. Denn die Explorationen zur polnischen Berufsbildung, die ganz wesentlich im engen Austausch mit den Akteuren erfolgten, standen so auch im Zeichen von Erwartungen und Widerständen, wie sie politische Projekte mit sich bringen.
