Item Description: Paris, Editions Nilsson, (1958). Bookseller Inventory # 12428

Item Description: Dodd, Mead & Company, New York, 1930. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Mario Laboccetta (illustrator). No date like all of the few others for sale (Circa 1930). Very rare book. Do some comparison shopping. I've priced it to be the least expensive despite likely being in the best condition. You can see the covers in the first few photographs. There's very little soiling. The corners and the edges are in excellent shape. The gilt lettering on the front cover has held up quite well. The black color of the covers has faded on the spine, the lettering there is now black (it was originally gilt). It is somewhat faded, but is still legible. There's a surface scratch near the top edge of the spine. And you can see that there is a tear at the very top edge of the spine (second photo). The interior of the book is also in very good condition. To begin, the book is very solidly bound, no issues in that regard. And the pages are quite clean, with only a few of them having minor soiling. I made sure that all of the referenced illustrations were present. They are. Counted and accounted for. There are quite a few full-page illustrations. They are quite beautiful. All of the illustrations are in color. And, most importantly, they all appear to be in excellent condition, without issue. All the pages in the book, in fact, are in very good condition. And there aren't any markings or attachments, and no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. A very special offering at a very inviting price. Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann was a Prussian Romantic author of fantasy and Gothic horror, a jurist, composer, music critic, draftsman and caricaturist. His stories form the basis of Jacques Offenbach's famous opera The Tales of Hoffmann, in which Hoffmann appears (heavily fictionalized) as the hero. He is also the author of the novella The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, on which Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker is based. The ballet Coppélia is based on two other stories that Hoffmann wrote, while Schumann's Kreisleriana is based on Hoffmann's character Johannes Kreisler. Hoffmann's stories highly influenced 19th century literature, and he is one of the major authors of the Romantic movement. Bookseller Inventory # 001416
