A VG clean copy in a generally nice binding. Ex Libris A.M. Lambert with a neat presentation inscription to blank front free endpaper dated 1841. In 1814 Rogers made a tour on the Continent with his sister Sarah. He travelled through Switzerland to Italy, keeping a full diary of events and impressions, and had made his way to Naples when the news of Napoleon's escape from Elba obliged him to hurry home. Seven years later he returned to Italy, paying a visit to Byron and Shelley at Pisa. Out of the earlier of these tours arose his last and longest work, Italy. The first part was published anonymously in 1822; the second, with his name attached, in 1828. E. Landseer, Sir A.W. Callcott (illustrator).

The third edition of Waverley, alongside Guy Mannering, the first and third volumes within Cadell's series of Waverley Novels by Scottish literary giant Sir Wa…lter Scott. Published in 1829, first published in 1814 and 1815 respectively. Rebound in half calf, with golden pebble boards. Waverley contains a vignette and frontispiece. Foundational texts within historical fiction, the Waverley novels swept Europe and remained among the most popular novels in the nineteenth century. Waverley, or 'Tis Sixty Years Since, follows a young man amidst the Jacobite Rising of 1745, while Guy Mannering follows a man's adventures following his kidnapping by smugglers. When these editions were published towards the end of his life, Scott hoped that they would aid his financial woes. Rebound in half calf, with golden pebble boards. Externally, smart, with minimal marks and edgewear. Slight fading to calf joints and to extremities. Waverley end papers are bright and clean, with minor browning to Guy front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Title leaf and frontispiece of Mannering are missing. Pages are bright and clean, with slight toning from printing to the odd leaf of preface in Waverley. Very Good. E.
