For more than forty years, the collection…has existed as an exhibition stored in folders. As Beke formulated in his call for participation, the concept of the project also reflected on the possibilities of how art could be exhibited at that time. Art experimenting with new forms could not be presented at "official" exhibition spaces, as these were sites available only for art that conformed to the state's cultural policy. At the same time, it is also compelling to realize that in 1971, alongside or in spite of the lack of institutional structure to support experimental forms of art, a parallel culture operated organically. All of the artists took the invitation seriously to send in materials according to Beke's concept: the WORK = the DOCUMENTATION OF THE IMAGINATION. Depending on their interpretations, the artists submitted projects that could have actually been realized, or projects that were utopic or that reflected on t.
