Alice and Martin Provensen (illustrator). A charming and increasingly scarce copy of Funny Bunny, a Big Golden Book by Rachel Learnard, illustrated by Alice and Martin Provensen. First Edition, published by Simon and Schuster, New York, 1950. The pictorial boards show moderate signs of age and wear, including rubbing, some bumping to corners, and wear along the spine consistent with handling. The binding remains tight and secure, with all pages firmly attached. Features the original pop-up element on the front endpaper. However, a portion of the bunny figure is missing, as noted. There is previous owner writing in ink on both the front and rear endpapers. Interior pages are otherwise clean, with no additional markings, and the illustrations remain bright, vibrant, and highly appealing. A solid collectible copy of this early Big Golden Book pop-up title, illustrated by the renowned Provensens, with honest wear and noted imperfections. (BR) Shelf 131.

The binding is tight although slightly cocked, with hinges intact. The dust jacket is still in one piece and not price-clipped, however heavily worn along edges and folds with small chips and tears. A first edition in a very attractive dust jacket.

Small previous owners inscription on the bottom of the title page. Otherwise book is a Tight sound unmarked copy in Very Good condition. Pop-up on the front endpapers is complete , in very nice condition, and pops up perfectly. No Signature.

No date of publication, though circa 1910; Eight page pamphlet bound in original paper wrap covers, and later bound into a cardboard library binding; Author's inscription at top of original cover reads in full "Complements to Prof. Dunlap [Charles Graham Dunlap] / O. E. Learnard"; Library covers show the book plate of Professor Dunlap and two penciled library notations; There are no other library markings; Though showing light smudges, pamphlet remains in very nice condition and authors inscription is bold and clear; Learnard (1832-1911) founded the town of Burlington, was a district judge, and a lieutenant colonel of the First Kansas Infantry. He was a member of the territorial legislature and one of the first state senators. He chaired the Osawatomie Convention and helped found the Kansas Republican party, of which he was the first chair. He purchased both the Lawrence Daily Journal and the Lawrence Daily Tribune to consolidate under the name "The Lawrence Journal" which he edited until shortly before his death; This very scarce pamphlet disputes much of the popular and historically accepted lore of John Brown's time in Kansas.
