'The Postman Always Rings Twice' is considered to be one of the most outstanding crime novels of the 20th century, originally published in 1934. This is the first of Cain's novels and is seen to be the inspiration for Camus' The Stranger. Cain is widely regarded as the parent of the hard-boiled school of American Crime Fiction, and in 1974 he was awarded the Grand Master Award by the Mystery Writers of America.
